Working across a spectrum of projects throughout New Zealand enables the practice to stay agile - with a project gallery spanning from alpine cottages, modern family homes, development projects for the department for social housing, multipurpose commercial spaces, right through to the good old kiwi bach.
New Zealand provides an incredible canvas for the practice, who, like the regionalists, work to maximise natural light, integrate environmental elements and create incredible spaces for kiwi’s to admire for years to come.
Over the past 15-years, living and working in both London and Melbourne, Michael has worked on projects across the Middle East, Europe and Australasia, allowing him to garner an in depth understanding of the unique considerations required in each new subject - from the practical to the purely aesthetic.
Launched in 2006 from his humble flat in Grafton, Macfie Architectural Design has grown into a team of four, based on Auckland’s High Street. With a focus on architecturally significant new builds, Michael’s dedication to the environment and the use of recycled, low impact materials echo throughout his work.
